Hold your breath for this bit of extremely wonderful news, kids: indie rock veterans Sunny Day Real Estate have announced that they are going to record a new album.

Animal Collective, on a self-imposed hiatus after one very long and busy year, have kept themselves at the tip of people's tongues in 2010 by staying busy with various side projects. Panda Bear recently premiered an overwhelming amount of new solo material in Germany; the band recently took over the Guggenheim and turned it into a giant performance piece. Most notably, the band have revealed their oft-mentioned, but long-delayed visual album ODDSAC. The film premiered at Sundance to mixed reviews from the film elite; now Animal Collective are bringing their vision of movie magic to us average Joes via public screenings in select cities all over the U.S. Oh, and it's being released on DVD on June 29. It's time to get your pouty faces on and dust off the old diaries, folks. Twee-pop titans Belle and Sebastian are officially off hiatus and hitting the road for some summer festival dates. Not only that, but the newly-reunited band have reported they've been busy in Glasgow writing new material, and are presently preparing to lay down some gloomy goodness in Los Angeles for an upcoming new album. Followers of folk would argue that the genre's potency and place in 21st century music has never faded, thus requiring no argument. However, you certainly can argue that no matter how much the genre may have dipped in popularity contests in the last few decades, the last couple of years have seen a surge of talent which is breathing fresh air into the corduroy trousers of folk. Artists like Devendra Banhart, Frightened Rabbit, and today's topic of discussion, Bowerbirds, are all contributing and making folk music, well, cool again really.

With a fresh line-up, fresh record label, and fresh LP on the way, Band Of Horses have surely chosen the most applicable name for their collective. These guys are definitely unified and sure are as strong minded and hard-working as the name suggests. The Seattle sextet has parted ways with SubPop and will be putting their third LP, Infinite Arms, out via a number of recording companies including: Columbia, frontmand Ben Bridwell's very own Brown Records, and Fat Possum.

Looks like our favorite little Chicagoan folk rock group, a.k.a. Fruit Bats, have announced a short slew of shows for this month. They will be taking Blue Giant with them on tour, and will also be accompanied by their psychedelic Chicago friends, Singleman Affair, for a few of these dates. Fruit Bats have stated that more shows, most likely for summer, will be announced in the near future.

Some very sad news to report: Over the weekend, Sparklehorse mastermind Mark Linkous committed suicide. He was 47 years old.
