If you're expecting the typical Yellowcard circa 2003's Ocean Avenue, you're better off revisiting that album. The latest track from this California pop-punk group is a bit more somber and subdued, but I like it. Catch it after the break!
The newest track from Yellowcard, entitled "Hang You Up", is slated to appear on the band's next album, When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, which is to be released next week via Hopeless Records. The track sounds like it belongs with this group, but makes me feel like these guys are headed into a slightly different direction. Is the album going to be more slow-paced and less pop-influenced? Not sure, but the lyrics are somewhat redemptive: "I cannot hold this anymore, my hands are tired of only waiting to let go". Whatever is going on in Ryan Key's mind makes me yearn for more. His lyrics make for a case of broken hearts, it seems; so, if you're looking for a track that will help you get through a recent breakup, be sure to check this one out. It has all the usual Yellowcard sound you might expect: that solemn, borderline melancholy violin, a sweet swashing of drums, and a really nice guitar sequence throughout the whole track. "Hang You Up" is undoubtedly memorable; it's a nice break from all the dubstep that has been suffocating the airwaves of the indie realm lately.
