How many bands come out of Saratoga Springs, NY? Not a whole hell of a lot. One would think with loads of big name rock and other shows playing there, as well as tons of great clubs that there would be a few. Oh well, we have Phantogram (and IYS favorite, Matthew Carefully).

The Phantogram (orinally called “Charlie Everywhere”) duo consists friends since jr. high, Josh Carter on guitars and Sarah Barthel who plays vocals/keys. This band’s music is unique. We use that word too often as music reviewers, but in the case of Phantogram it’s the only thing that stick. They artfully blend synths, drum machines, with Josh’s live guitar, keyboards, and Sarah’s hauntingly gorgeous vocals. “When I’m Small” is the first big single from their debut album Eyelid Movies, and was featured in the first episode of MTV’s uber-controversil show, “Skins.”

The video for “When I’m Small” is low key, but clever. Shot largely in B&W, and it’s an artsy, hipster affair to be sure. Director Isaac Ravishankara does a great job matching up the music to effects, and transitions. It doesn’t hurt matters that Josh and Sarah look amazing on camera. Watch it below.
