Shoegaze blossomed in the early nineties, It's heyday marked by artists like Lush, My Bloody Valentine, and Slowdive. The style has recently seen a resurgence with the advent of so-called "Nu-gaze" bands (Nu-gaze being a sister genre to the similarly new chillwave movement), which combine the trademark scuzzed-out guitars and washed vocals with everything from synth-pop to space-rock.

One notable new artist in the field of Nu-gaze is Glass Graves, the solo project of Bay Area-native Gaby Graves. Bio-ethicist by day, the 27-year old's new musical effort fittingly comes out mostly after dark, which is perhaps why each track eschews the shoegaze thematic norm, opting instead to take a much, much darker path. The resulting product is accurately called "haunting" by just about everyone who hears it, ourselves included.

Glass Graves debut LP, Architecture, was self-released via the web just this month, and at the asking price of zero dollars, there's no reason not to grab it immediately. We'll be keeping our eyes on Gaby. We recommend you do the same.
