IYS recently received a sunny set of electro from three different artists who are all feelin’ the warmth of summer, fun and sun on the way. Ironically, all three had the word “Sun” in their name – Two Suns, Sun Glitters and Sun Deers. We were amused by the sudden rush of sun-shiny, goodness and thought we’d share the joy. This sunny mix will have you seeing sunspots.
Two Suns
Norman, OK’s Two Suns (A.K.A. Jake Davidson) has just finished his self-recorded/self-produced "debut" EP Yum. The sunny lad tells IYS that he’s been working on it since November 2010 in his off hours trying to get the tracks laid - “…while my two sons were sleeping (usually before 6 am or after 11pm).” Music has no bound. The album was recorded in Davidson’s bedroom and a closet in his house. Nice work! As an interesting side note – this is the second closet-recorded piece this week that InYourSpeakers has reviewed. Indeed.
Sun Glitters
Luxembourg’s Sun Glitters (A.K.A. Victor Ferreira, A.K.A. Sug(r)cane). Ferreira has been on the music scene since 1998, but is somewhat of a genre switcher; recently changing his recording name to Sun Glitters and releasing his debut, Everything Could Be Fine. Ferreira’s album is a terrific, somewhat out of step, shoegaze, background music affair. He mixes interesting, out-of-synch vocal samples then layers them over drum machine cuts and gorgeously dreamy electro melodies to create his audio collage. Sun Glitters has a couple of notable remixes on deck for Papercutz, Space Ghost, Lushlife, and Blackbird Blackbird.
Sun Deers’ new two song EP Venecia Lovers is a slightly more dramatic and tense version of the other two “Suns”. Kind of like a troubled brother on a psychedelic drug binge.
Sun Deers is 17 year-old musician, and photographer. This EP is his first effort at laying down tracks for the rest of the world to hear. He’s on his way as an artist though; recently recording the “Los Sunsets” track with Wolvepop. Keep an eye out for this kid.
Check out these tracks below. They’ll warm you up on this chilly spring morning.
