Over the weekend, we received a new track from the Parisian composer SayCet, alter ego of Pierre LeFeuvre. SayCet combines electropop underpinnings with Afro-Cuban influences in his remix of Casiokids' “Fot i Hose”. Adding a touch of '80s to the Norwegian pop artists' track creates one of the more interesting cuts we've heard this year.
Unexpectedly, the "Fot i Hose" remix is subtler than the majority of SayCet's work. While the guitar and synth vibro buzz can all be found in the Casiokids' original, SayCet has slowed it down slightly, and enhanced the beats – not by making them louder or adding a heavier bass, but by changing their nature. Where he’s excelled on this remix is by adding the luscious, orchestral layer that you’ll pick up towards the early middle of the song. There’s also more cacophony towards the end, which feels a tad overdone.
SayCet’s unique, often experimental original compositions combine vocals that make you feel like you’re cloud surfing. Utilizing the usual guitar, synth, and drum machines, he creates a sound that’s more of an electronic orchestration than an electro dance piece. His work is thoughtful, introspective, and to draw a comparison, similar to a Cirque du Soleil soundtrack.
While the project began as a solo effort by Lefeuvre, he’s been recently joined by vocalist/guitarist Phoene Somsavath, who provides incredibly deep, yet ethereal, vocals. In the live shows, the lineup includes an intense visual element to round out the performance-art quality of SayCet’s acts. Zita Cochet takes on the role as VJ, and her projections add a colorful, cinematic experience to the show.
Casiokids started the jam in 2004, and since then have toured the world several times over. Their main lineup, and the Casiokids proper, includes Omar Johnsen, Fredrik Øgreid Vogsborg, Ketil Kinden Endresen, and Kjetil Bjøreid Aabø, however, MANY more musicians play along on occasion, weaving in and out of the Casiokids in true jam session style. Their hyperbolic live shows are legend, and they’ve been scene stealers at notable festivals such as SXSW, Oslo Live, Stuck, CMJ, The Great Escape, and others.
SayCet is one of the finest, most innovative electronic artists working now, and while this track didn’t change our worlds, it was solid. I encourage you to review LeFeuvre’s entire catalog of music. We’ve included one of our favorites below, along with both the SayCet RMX of “Fot i Hose”, and the original for comparison.
