Ladies and Gentlemen, it is officially indie rock feuding season, and things are already off to a good, dramatic start. We have all the details on a Marnie Stern/Best Coast feud, so read all about it after the jump!
In an interview with Impose, progressive rock shred queen Marnie Stern thoroughly dissed anddismissed the efforts of Best Coast, the latest darlings of Southern California's lo-fi/surf rock scene. First, Stern insinuated that Best Coast is only famous because of frontwoman Bethany Cosentino's relationship with Wavves' Nathan Williams, Stern then told Impose, “I heard a song and was like, 'Are you joking me?'" When informed of Cosentino's decidedly un-ironic lyrics regarding boys, talking cats and weed, Stern responded, “You might as well be an 80s hair metal band saying, 'I want pussy'".
Thus far, Best Coast has remained unresponsive to Stern's stinging words. Moreover, there hasn't even been any venom spit from Williams' mouth; which is surprising, given Williams' somewhat pugnacious reputation.
Currently, Best Coast is basking in the success of their debut LP, Crazy for You, while Marnie Stern is working toward the release of a thus far self-titled effort, slated for an October 5 release.
We at InYourSpeakers are not going to tell you whose side to take in this particular feud – as far as we're concerned, Best Coast rocks one way, Marnie Stern the other way, and our earbuds are musically omnisexual. But, we will tell you that Bill Murray is a known fan of Best Coast. And, round these parts, we take what The Murricane says pretty seriously.
