Former Sex Pistol John Lydon has announced that the money he earned from the Country Life butter advertising campaign has funded the reformation of his post-punk band Public Image Ltd. Get all the details after the jump!

Lydon is currently on tour in the UK with PiL, with the somewhat embarrassing distinction that this tour is being financed by a butter advertisement. However, Lydon explained to NME, “I'm permanently out of pocket, but I've got news for you, from the first day I started PiL I was out of pocket. For me it's an ongoing process. For eighteen years I haven't been able to fund this, so when that butter advert came along I was more than ecstatic."

Lydon also revealed that the PiL, who are currently on tour, have been working on new music "all the time we're on the road", though they would not describe the new material.

The punk legend also went on to attack his former record label, Virgin Records, claiming: "They've used my work to buy paler, lesser talented imitators and flood their shelves with that. There's a whole host of bands on their label that they do give the money up to, I'm not one of them. But I am the one that led the charge and still am." Interesting.

In other news, the infamously outspoken legend is “astounded” that he hasn't been flooded with offers to perform at summer music festivals. He insists that his band, Public Image Limited, is MUCH more entertaining than U2, a band that apparently should never have existed. (Yeah, right.) However, Lydon had also declined vehemently an offer to appear on Gorillaz’ latest album, Plastic Beach. While Lydon is obviously not making any friends in the music industry, he still continues to record his own music with PiL.
