Le Dieu benit le Francais: "God Bless the French" for their food and for their electronic/hip hop acts. Specifically, Birdy Nam Nam and Beat Torrent.

Birdy Nam Nam are a four-piece turntablist crew from France. In the tradition of Invisbl Skratch Piklz and other steel-wheel assasin clans, Birdy Nam Nam are four guys rocking four turntables, making straight up sweet electronic baddassery. Award-winning and record spinning, they're kicking out the jams, one after another.

One cut from their 2006 self-titled album is "Abbesses", a low-key groove powered by a repeating bassline and is layered on by multiple orchestral and electronic sounds. Altogether, they create a memorizing, haunting atmosphere that supports the weighty imagery of the track's title. It's incredible to think that four guys with four record players made this music.

Enter Beat Torrent, the two-man team of DJ Pfel and DJ Atom. Next, take that slow groove and give it a dance beat, a bigger sound and light it up. Known for their remixes (so much that they released a 12" on KIF Records solely of remixes), Beat Torrent don't disappoint. In fact, they blow it up! And if you didn't know before, be thankful for the bounty we've discovered today.
