Nick Diamonds

You might know Nick Diamonds best from his work as frontman for Islands or his past stint with Unicorns. If you’re into either him or those bands, stay tuned, because he just released a solo album called, I Am An Attic. It’s a chilled-out album to be sure -- low key with a '60s, Ennio Morricone feel. Many of these songs would be equally at home on the new Dangermouse/Daniele Luppi/Jack White/Norah Jones collaboration album Rome.

This album might not hit you over the head with the “LOVE IT!” stick at first, but it’ll grow on you. As vibes go, it’s a bit closer to Unicorns than Islands. Nick Diamonds (actual name Nick Thorburn) names his childhood home, the Vancouver Islands, as one of his musical influences. The music is well crafted, and there are outstanding lyrics throughout the album. Standouts include “Attic”, a humorous trip through Nick’s mind called “Gone Bananas”, the more uptempo (for Nick anyway) “In Dust We Trust,” and the almost Jason-Mraz-poppy love ballad “Dream, Dream, Dream.”

Watch for more from Nick and his other projects this year. We left you with a couple of tracks below, but check out his Bandcamp for the free full album. Rumor has it, it won’t be free forever.
