What’s an ex-math rocker to do when they won’t let him sing and make less heady music? Start his own gig! More on this in a bit. LoOmis just released his latest EP, Vellocet, that he recorded this summer, while house sitting for a friend. Must have been nice.
LoOmis is the experimental analog recording project of San Francisco’s Patrick Bailey (originally a NoLa guy). If you hear a hint of math rock mixed in with all that lo-fi haze, that’s because Patrick started his musical life as the guitarist in an instrumental math rock band called, “Smiley With A Knife.” He mixes up genres that include math rock, some indie rock vibes too, there’s also serious amounts of lo fi haze, all laid down in sweet analog. Bailey starts most tracks with a beat and lays down the drum track, adds in guitars, samples, and the vocal track, then adlibs extraneous noises recording.
LoOmis is on the ball. He’s got several pretty interesting vids (“War Elephant” is below), and this is actually his third EP, he also has three full lengths on his bandcamp page all for a “name your own price.” This cat is turning out some genre fuzing, unique tunes, so be a sport and pony up some cash so he can keep doing it, and not have to keep living at other people’s houses (JK about the "houses" bit). Check out his other releases on his bandcamp page, FaceBook, etc. - links in the “Learn More” section.
