OK, we'll admit it . . . sometimes we get a little nervous hearing the word “mixtape". The “mixtape” has become a prolific vehicle for getting undiscovered music out there in short order, despite the fact that some of it is just plain out there, and some of it shouldn't be out there at all. On the other hand, mixtapes have the potential for awesomeness too (think Z-Trip, Diplo, Flux Pavillion) like this new Under the Sun mix from 33Hz.

It's three solid tracks with a musical thread tying it all together. It runs the musical gamut from the first bit of electro/club, to the vocal portion of the show, to Herbie Hancock-style jazz with a slight disco flair. Legit, right? Very well done, and it clocks in at just a hair over 12 and a half minutes.

This little tidbit from 33Hz’s official bio jumped out at me: “On the competitive car audio circuit, 33Hz is the frequency of bass said to cause women to spontaneously orgasm.” Yup, you got it, that’s where the name came from. 33Hz is really three guys from New York. Benny Lowe (vocals/guitars) and Tim Wagner (keys) have known each other since high school, and Brion Isaacs joined them recently; all have previously played in bands of all different genres. So, when the three came together, they melded that diversity of sound into 33Hz.
