Nicki Minaj appeared on Good Morning America today to perform as well as set the record straight about what went down with fellow musician Taylor Swift on Twitter this week.

After an awkward misunderstanding, in which Swift incorrectly identified herself as the target of Minaj's outrage over VMA nominations, Swift reached out to Minaj to apologize and mend the bridge she inadvertently set fire to.

Not only did Minaj accept Swift's apology but she also went on to clarify that the two were still friends. On Good Morning America, Lara Spencer asked Minaj if "something beautiful" could be made between the two artists and Minaj responded positively.

"I'm sure we can. You know why? Because it takes a big person to do what Taylor did...We spoke for a long time. We were cracking up laughing on the phone. It's over, you guys."

Minaj also had the opportunity to reiterate the original point she was trying to make about "slim bodies" before Swift, Katy Perry and others redirected the conversation on to other topics.

"I think we have to have both images for girls. We can't have only one type of body being glorified in the media, because it just makes girls even more insecure than we already are."

It's refreshing to see that although Swift spoke out of turn she was able to learn from the experience, especially about how music industry favoritism is uniquely detrimental to women of color. We expect to see a lot of smiles exchanged between the two starlets at the VMAs and hope that, although the drama has subsided, Minaj's message about how "Black women influence pop culture so much, but are rarely rewarded for it," doesn't get forgotten.
