Blues Legend B.B. King, widely known as the "King of the Blues," passed away in his sleep last night at the age of 89.

Born in Mississipi, King began his music career in the late 1940's, releasing his very first hit "3 O Clock Blues" in 1952. King's dedication to the genre never faltered throughout his 66 year career, continuing to record and tour all the way up through 2008. He is most widely known for his hit "The Thrill Is Gone," and received a total of 15 Grammy's throughout his career as well as a lifetime achievement award.

The King will be missed.
