Legendary blues singer Blind Willie Johnson will receive a tribute album in 2014 if a Kickstarter page dedicated to its production can raise enough money before November 16.

The release will feature covers of Johnson’s classics by Tom Waits, Sinead O’Connor, Lucinda Williams and Derek Trucks with Susan Tedeschi, among others. It will be called God Don't Never Change: The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson.

Rewards for pledgers include t-shirts, exclusive and advance releases and guitars and picks made from the wood of Johnson’s 1930s home.

The Kickstarter page was posted yesterday, following NASA's announcement last month that Voyager 1 has exited our solar system. The space probe carries an assortment of objects and information intended to represent the love and aspirations of mankind, including a gold-plated disc which holds the music of Mozart and Chuck Berry and Blind Willie Johnson’s “Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground.”

As of publication, the Kickstarter has raised over $21,000 of the $125,000 needed.
