If you are feeling a little cold from the brisk winter air, warm up with some quality surfer beats by Cayucas. This modern-indie surf-pop is sure to make you feel like you’re sixteen and swimsuit ready again.
Originating from Santa Monica, lead band artists, Zach Yudin, is a cultured sort. Upon traveling and teaching in Tokyo, he decided to head back to California to live the life of a musician. Once home, he hit the studio with producer/ musician Richard Swift who has also worked with artists like The Shins.
The band was first went by Oregon Bike Trail, but just recently, went through a name change after signing with Secretly Canadian. The name of the band, Cayucas, is an ode to a little surfer town north of LA and south of San Jose. It is a town that has “hardly changed in fifty years" Yudin says. A place of nostalgia.
Their new tracks came out on October 12, 2012, and they are proving to be a huge hit amongst listeners. Both “Swimsuit” and "Cayucos" are becoming widely popular, yet “Swimsuit” is the track that is impressing listeners the most. You can purchase both tracks on iTunes. Listeners are comparing them to the Beach Boys, but with a solid hipster twist. They also sound very similar the Brooklyn band, The Drums. The vibe of the tracks are fo-surf-pop, for we can assume that the musicians probably cannot surf—they solely celebrate the airy-Cali mood of the beach. This winter you can find these guys touring the west coast, teaming up with awesome artists such as the Ra Ra Riots and El Ten Eleven. Cayucas is sure to be a new Cali sensation.
