Portland, Oregon electronica group Starfucker (STRFKR) released "While I'm Alive" this week to hype their upcoming album, Miracle Mile. STRFKR's album, which drops 2/19/13 through Polyvinyl Records is available for preorder on the label's website. The first single of the album, "While I'm Alive" is a classic example of STRFKR's bright, energetic dance hooks.
The track established the melodic theme right away, then builds musically and vocally from there. Perhaps the best aspect of the song is its crisp production, which merges real instruments (namely guitar and vocals) with synths and bass to create a bright and interesting effect. Going hand and hand with production is songwriting, also superior in this track. The songwriting of the song lends itself to the superb orchestration between instruments (no small part of the track's crisp sound), the dynamics (which vary greatly even though the song never loses any energy), the flow, and the melding of real and synth elements that strikes a perfect balance. "While I'm Alive" displays the great production, musical, instrumental, and songwriting skills that any electronica act should hope to wield.
