Bay Area chamber poppers Foxtails Brigade released Time Is Passed at the end of November, including dreamy single "The Unloved." Foxtails Brigade, the side project of Anton Patzner of Judgement Day and fronted by Laura Weinbach, follows Judgement Day's token string essence, but presents it in a different format.
"The Unloved" isn't very string-heavy (at least not outwardly so), but leans more on Weinbach's stellar, chilling voice, as does much of the band's work. The song, and the band's music in general, falls on the perfect converging point of folk, pop, and indie music. It brings the wired sound of Indie music to a folky atmosphere, and emerges with bright, yet often melancholy works. The string elements are just the icing on the cake. The music, which is never more than a rich, compelling backdrop merges blanketing chords and atmospheric sounds with busier scales and build-ups to give the song a blended presence and a sense of dynamic ebb and flow.
Much like Weinbach's voice, the song is gently yet confidently gorgeous. The song is relaxing, sweet, sullen, emotional, and just so beautiful. "The Unloved" is available for download on the band's facebook page for the price of one like.
