In her previous EP, Self-Taught Learner, Lissy Trullie presented her listeners with an upbeat and edgy sound that offered us just enough attitude paired with killer beats, which left us engaged and waiting for more. Well, it’s been over two years, and Trullie has decided to throw us a bit of a curve ball with her new single, “Madeleine.”
The sound of “Madeleine” is different than anything we’ve heard from Trullie before. The song starts slow and stays that way for the duration. Trullie offers a truly haunting and delicate vocal in her lower register. There’s just enough distortion throughout the track to leave us unsettled, but never over done. It lays low, waiting to be appreciated on a second or third listen. There’s no urgency in the song, just a slow and startling presence both lyrically and musically.
If this is a taste of things to comes, we at Inyourspeakers anxiously await the record’s release next March.
