"Passenger" is the delicate and haunting first glimpse into Emily Wells's upcoming LP Mama - set for release April 10, 2012 on Partisan Records.
Emily Wells is a musical mastermind on a level all her own. With her classical violin training she has crafted the ability to mix classical, folk, and hip-hop together into one gorgeous sound. Add in her signature vocals, and the talent to effortlessly bring such complex and experimental sounds to the live stage, and it is no wonder that listeners of Ms. Wells have been patiently waiting for the release of her latest record.
"Passengers" opens sounding a bit distorted, as though it's from a different era. The violin comes right through, chilling in its haunting simplicity. The vocal that Wells offers in this track is vulnerable and effortless, allowing the beautifully sad lyrics (bottom of the well/and I just lost the rope) to cut clearly through. It's a quiet and catchy song that packs a lot of emotional and musical punch.
