It’s been a long time since 2009’s Noble Beast, but Andrew Bird has finally returned with the new album, Break It Yourself, set for release March 6, 2012. If the first single “Eyeoneye” is a sign of things to come then it has definitely been worth the wait.

Andrew Bird – with Martin Dosh, Jeremy Ylvisaker, and Mike Lewis – are back with a sound that is as similar as it is different from that of Noble Beast. While we’ve only had a taste of their new record through the first single “Eyeoneye,” it is already clear that much of Bird’s signature style is still there. The intricate layering of different musical styles, whistles, and lyrical word-play are all present on the new single. In spite of the similarities, the song contains a heavier guitar than we’re used to hearing from these guys and a raw vocal by Bird that is more organic and unpolished than usual, giving the song a heavier emotional feel. Bird ties the album title into the lyric "No one can break your heart/so you break it yourself" making for a nice feeling of interconnectedness between the whole and its parts. Now you can listen to the song, and take comfort in knowing that March 6th is just around the corner.
