Long Island’s Patrick Berlinquette is a burgeoning practitioner of this so called “glo-fi” movement.

At its core, it takes the lo-fi aesthetic of popular chillwave acts like Washed Out and Toro Y Moi but gives it that extra ethereal oomph, in a "Hail to the Thief" Thom Yorke kind of way. His Mezcal Noon EP dropped back in July, generating some healthy buzz while perpetuating the preponderance of half-developed Instagrammed images of California coastline gracing their respective album covers.

His new free download “Cast the First Stone” starts with a muffled crackling that transitions into aimless cooing and a slightly irritating synthesizer loop. Fortunately, the song begins to crystallize around his light and airy overdubs and solid drum machine. For the most part it sort stays in this same monochromatic purgatory before it abruptly ends. This single would be infinitely better if it were a minute or two longer, climaxed during an even more bizarre bridge, and settled back into its warm sensibilities. The first two tracks off his EP, especially the slick "The World Around You" , is definitely a much more viable option for his promising future.
