Hurricane Bells Tides and Tales

Our Rating

Music Player:

I’ve never seen or plan on seeing any of the Twilight films, but I had the unexpected pleasure of hearing the New Moon soundtrack a few years back and was introduced to the gritty alt-rock of Steve Schiltz and Longwave.

A Longwave track also found its way into I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, according to Schiltz's interview with our own Bo Smothers two years back. It sounds like this guy’s sold out, right? Wrong. “Indie” music has become the new sure thing for music supervisors’ looking to inject otherwise stale products with catchy tunes the masses have yet to consume.

Starting this past Monday, Schiltz’s side-but-now-full-time project Hurricane Bells will be releasing one free download off their sophomore album Tides and Tales (Invisible Brigades) each week until their album drops October 25th. They definitely chose the right foot to kick the door down on “Possibilities”. Unlike previous Longwave recordings, Schiltz is clearly the mastermind pulling all the right strings at exactly the right time. A pulsing muffled backbeat primes us for the impending breakdown, which retains all the grimy goodness you’d expect, but on a much more refined level. Thanks to production help from Ashen Keilyn (Scout) and Justin Furstenfeld (Blue October) this soaring track will surely find its way to your nearest multiplex very soon. Check out the video for "The Ghost of Her" which they filmed while touring with KT Tunstall this past year.
