Expensive Looks perhaps...but his style gives us a delightfully rich and somehow still low fi sounding dance track…something not pulled off too often with much success.
New York-based psych-pop producer Alec Feld, Expensive Looks, produces music with heavy dance bass and strong beats.
On “Nothing More,” Alec creates layers of noise, music and voice to capture the listener’s attention. And Alec is one of the ones who does succeed.
“Nothing More” wraps several sounds and feelings through in just over two and a half minutes that keep the track fast and heavy. There’s a sense of control, of being directed along by the tune that you can’t shake. A harsh, tinny sound to start, within seconds the heavy bass takes over and you’re on your way into the world that Alec creates for you with the clever use of sound and motion in the form of sound.
With vocal styling that’s not unlike Mark Foster’s (that is…rolling along with epic brushes to the heights one second and low and gritty the next) Alec provides the right mix of high and low; grit and smooth; celestial and terrestrial all in one ear catching track. It’s short enough to not get repetitive and long enough to appreciate the light hand he’s mixed the track with.
