My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James was hospitalized on October 7th following a fall during a show in Iowa. According to an official statement from the band, it was during the final moments of Off The Record that James slipped and hurt himself. He was attempting to climb onto a sub woofer to get closer to the audience when the lights suddenly darkened, causing him to step off the stage and hurt his torso.

He was taken to the hospital and will spend the following 2-3 weeks recovering from his injuries. This has caused MMJ to cancel their Chicago shows scheduled for Thursday and Friday this week. The band has also cancelled their participation in a Louisville, Kentucky Obama benefit next week.

The statement also contains an apology to fans at the Iowa show that was cut off about half way through; "For those who attended the Iowa City show, we would like to extend our gratitude for your understanding and cooperation. We take our fans and performances very seriously, and would never cancel a show unless it was absolutely necessary. Please know that we will be making every effort to return to your fine city."

The two Chicago shows will be rescheduled as soon as possible. The upcoming shows in Europe this November should thankfully not be affected by the incident.
