Nothing can deliver a body blow to the stomach of an adoring fan like news of a band parting ways with a record label. Well actually there is something more powerful. A beloved band who part's ways with a record label and doesn't immediately find a follow up. Where are they going? What will they do now? Well fear not because after arduous waiting and careful inspection, Minus the Bear have chosen to set up camp with Dangerbird Records. C'mon now, you weren't really worried, were you?
After parting ways with Suicide Squeeze and exiting a relationship which spawned three LP's and a handful of EP's, the band are set to be divulging a new record with new lodgings, in the form of Dangerbird Records. Bassist Cory Murchy stated, "After months of looking under rocks and in dark caves, we've found a nice place to nest with Dangerbird Records."
With the band's growing popularity after a succession of critically acclaimed releases including 2007's Planet of Ice LP, it's sure to say that Minus Bear would have had a plethora of other options to pursue. However, it seems that Dangerbird's credentials looked cozy enough to occupy the band's needs.
Co-founder/CEO of Dangerbird Records, Jeff Castelaz explained, "As music fans, we've adored Minus the Bear for years, so we're honored to be in business with them." The company is by no means a feeble affair, boasting The Dears and Silversun Pickups, among other great names, on their growing roster. They also handle management duties for Eagles of Death Metal, making the LA based label no strangers to hard work.
Details about LP number four will be released on Monday the 22nd, and IYS will of course be keeping you posted on all developments. Also, keep your cursors on high alert for an exciting featured interview with the band here at IYS in the next week.
Update: The forthcoming record, entitled OMNI, will be released on May 4th.
