If the anticipation surrounding MGMT's sophomore release, Congratulations, is getting the better of you, then it's very likely you have been visiting their site and Myspace: Over the last few days, both sites have been dropping all sorts of info in their viral campaign. Secret shows? Secret Locations? Or maybe just a psychedelic bus ride? IYS has all the answers after the jump.

It looks like MGMT's PR team may have been smoking from the same pipe as the band's bandana wearing twosome. New York, Austin, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are all about to be subject to an "extraordinary event," which at this point is being called MGMTmobile. As expected, adoring fans have gone blogging bonkers in order to find details about what the hell is going on.

We've done a little digging, and we can tell you that it is not secret shows, though it does involve secret locations. Surprisingly, it doesn't really involve the band at all, at least not directly. Basically their web pages reveal clues as to the exact location of each mysterious meeting one hour before it starts, and the first six who get their are bundled into an unforgettable experience of mystery and smoke hazed entertainment.

So what is going to happen when these six people get to wherever it is they're going, you ask. They go on a bus ride. Anti-climactic? Maybe. We are still not sure exactly what will be happening whilst on this "adapted passenger van," except that patrons will be subject to a "unique MGMT fan experience," and that they'll receive a limited edition I WAS CAPTURED BY MGMT t-shirt. The obvious assumption is that the lucky individuals who are there first get to listen to the new album in it's entirety while being driven around their city in style. That assumption is solidified by the fact that everyone will supposedly be required to relinquish any PDA's, cameras, or audio-visual devices before boarding.

As exciting as the whole thing probably sounded on paper, the publicity stunt seems to be pissing people off more than anything. Besides the messy organization of the whole thing, fans all over the internet are disappointed and bummed that the clues apparently aren't going to mean shows in their area.

So what do you think? Great opportunity or half-assed publicity? Congratulations will be available on April 13th. If you don't think you can wait that long, perhaps MGMT's van ride is perfect for you after all.
