Independent record label Matador Records has purchased the even lesser-known label, True Panther Sounds. Why might the New York based company home to bands such as Mission of Burma, Sonic Youth, Times New Viking, and Yo La Tengo want to invest their time and money in a smaller label during a time of recession? Girls. Girls. Girls. The band, that is.
Matador Records purchased TPS for several reasons, but the many talented musicians on the label were likely the deciding factor. The most prominent being, the group everyone's been talking, Girls. At the moment, Girls' latest album, Album, is the only True Panther Sounds title to be worked through Matador's promotional and marketing machinery. Don't worry Ty Segall and Rainbow Bridge fans! The rest of the groups from TPS' impressive roster (including Ty Segall, Rainbow Bridge, The Fly Girlz,The Standing Nudes, and many others) will receive similar treatment when Matador gets all their ducks in a row!
