Apparently motivated by guilt, Georgia-born Chan Marshall, otherwise known as Cat Power, will be filling in for her backing band (The Dirty Delta Blues Band) when she records the follow-up to 2008's covers disc Jukebox. Reflecting on the decision to go this one alone, Marshall expressed a desire to pick up her guitar and get in front of her piano again. More after the jump.

"I’m at a point where my heart tells me, 'Chan, you haven't played piano or guitar for four or five years,' and I do have guilt about that," Marshall said in a recent interview. Possibly looking to record something more in the spirit of her earlier material, she remarked that people have been frequently asking her when she's going to play by herself again. Marshall added that she has written a lot of songs for the record, and that many were finished even prior to the release of Jukebox. "Some of them are sad again, and I feel really nervous about that," she said of the new material, which could possibly further explain her need to go solo for a while.
