Oh, Animal Collective. You wonderful liars. After insisting there would be no compilation of B-sides (and no studio version of recent live staple "What Would I Want? Sky") to follow their 2009 masterpiece, Merriweather Post Pavillion, the group went ahead and blew our minds with the Fall Be Kind EP, anyway. After announcing a planned hiatus following their 2009 live duties, the Collective proceeded to make good on their promises of an upcoming film or 'visual album,' now officially entitled ODDSAC and set to premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in January. Not only that, but Panda Bear has been spilling more details as of late regarding his forthcoming follow-up to 2007's impeccable Person Pitch, stating that his 'dark' new record should see completion for a release some time in 2010. Most recently, Animal Collective guest-edited the newest issue of Fader, and are now planning to spin a heavily visual DJ set at the Museum of Natural History in Manhattan, along with a 'secret guest,' to help the Museum ring in the new decade. So much for taking a break, eh guys? Specifics after the jump.

The announcement:

The American Museum of Natural History rings in 2010 with One Step Beyond, presented with The Fader Magazine on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 9 PM - 1 AM, with a headline DJ set by Animal Collective and openers, the Activaire DJs. Joining will be a surprise guest, who will be announced the week of. For the first time, advance tickets are $20 until 6 PM on the day of show, and $25 at the door; both ticket prices include a free future visit to the museum, cosmic visuals by Fuevoz (with VJs SeeJ and Benton-C), and entry to the Museum's breathtaking Passport to the Universe Hayden Planetarium Show, narrated by Tom Hanks. Advance tickets are recommended and available at www.amnh.org/osb. The entrance to the event is located on Central Park West at West 79th Street.

Given the current trend of Animal Collective's 'hiatus,' we can start hoping for a double album by the end of 2010. Operative word: hoping.
